Sept 03 - First Evolution kit fitted in New Zealand
Mainlander fits Scorpion Racing's Evolution Kit and E2 Kit (with exclusive to Scorpion Racing) Koni +2" Adjustable Shock Absorbers to his Range Rover.

John McCorkindale of Raes Junction, near Dunedin, has treated his Range Rover. He has fitted the first Scorpion Racing Evolution Kit in New Zealand. The Range Rover also benefited from a 2-inch lift with the fitment of a Scorpion Racing E2 Kit.

This E2 Kit consists of four shock absorbers and springs. Extended stainless steel braided PTFE brake lines are included with the Evolution Kit.

The shock absorbers in the E2 Kit are specially made for Scorpion by Koni and have a 3-way adjustment. The springs were selected from Scorpion Racings huge range to provide a tailored set-up for John’s Range Rover.

John was surprised at how complete the Evo Kit was, with everything included to replace the various components. He was also very impressed by the quality of the components. John reports that with the Evo and E2 kits fitted the off road capabilities of the Range Rover have been greatly improved and was surprised at how much better its road manners were, despite its 2-inch lift.

To give plenty of room for the 32 inch tyres John also cut 50mm off the fenders and trimmed them up with a set of Flares. The photos show what a neat job John has made of his Range Rover, and we look forward to seeing more photos of his adventures. There will be no stopping him now with its improved ground clearance and superior axle articulation.

John writes:
"The kit took a while to arrive, due to the brake lines taking a while to turn up, but I was really pleased with the service from Mainlandrover. I was impressed with the kit and ease of assembly, and the clear step-by-step instructions."

"My wife thought I might not be seen for weeks but she was surprised to have to help bleed the brakes in less than a week.

After talking to the local vehicle certifier, he thought that with it being a recognised kit and not homemade there should be no problems with certification. Even with the spring dislocation, so long as the springs were retained in some manner, there should be no real issues. I am now looking forward to giving the Rover a decent work out at the November rally in the Catlins."

Thanks for the kind words John. For a comparison of various suspension kits check out the September 2003 issue of Land Rover Monthly Magazine. There is a feature on Scorpion Racing's Evolution Kit fitted to Sam Lotz's 90 SW, which also has an E2 kit fitted.

Steve Bowen's Defender 90 SW fitted with Scorpion’s Extreme Suspension Kit is also featured. Steve opted for the 4-inch lift version of the Kit. Our Extreme kitted 90 SW has the 2-inch lift version of the kit.
